The Heart of Project Management - FAI Panel Resources

What are you dreaming of? Bring your most important project to the club and we'll build structure and accountability to get it done!

After hearing from so many creatives and solopreneur friends about their frustration getting projects off the ground, being overwhelmed just trying to map out the steps, stay on schedule, make a realistic budget, or finish what they started, I wanted to find a way to bring the magic of project management to help them get their shit together. I want them to feel great about what they're bringing into the world - and how they're doing it - with more focus, MORE JOY, and way less stress.

Project management is as much an art as a science. It can help you achieve your goals with grace and style by balancing three important elements: time, cost, and quality.

The problem is, most applications of project management methodology feel clinical, inaccessible, and hopelessly dry. Trying to stamp you into a perfect cookie-cutter robot achiever doesn't lead to fulfillment.

I believe in creating a learning environment that celebrates your unique human-ness, empowering you with the right tools and support for your actual life, so you can harness the power of self-knowledge and juicy inspiration into exciting momentum toward your goals.

I've been a project management consultant since 2004, advising on projects big and small, for Fortune 500 companies and non-profits. Working with large teams on complex projects is exciting, but my heart is really with artists and entrepreneurs.

I created this 5-week Project Club to make project management relatable and accessible, so you can use world-class tools and techniques to do great things with your one wild and precious life.*

Do you have an idea/goal/product/service/event/passion project?

What are you dreaming of? Let's make a plan!

Project Club Schedule

March 21-April 18, 2022 // Zoom sessions every Monday for 5 weeks, from 1-3pm Central Time

Part I Project management overview: ideas and tools you can use forever; Example team planning to practice your skills and connect with your cohort; Share your own project concept to gather feedback, inspiration, and build momentum.

Part II Create your own individualized plan and timeline, so you'll be ready to execute each step with mitigated risk and a realistic understanding of the resources you need to be successful.

What's in it for YOU:

  • Get clarity on what your project IS and what it’s NOT, how long it will take, and how much it will cost
  • Build your skills and understanding of the process and tools to plan any project, big or small
  • Belong to an intimate cohort of fellow artists and solopreneurs sharing ideas, resources, and perspectives

What you'll need:

  • An idea for a project you’d like to start or need help finishing (could be holding an event, creating or releasing music or art, launching a business idea, creating a podcast, moving to a new city, etc.)
  • Dedication to our meeting times over the weeks we’ll be meeting together
  • Small sticky notes (something around 2” square, in at least 4 colors)
  • Wrapping paper (any kind, we'll be using the back side)
  • Pencil & eraser

Testimonial quote

- Will this course teach me to be a Project Manager?

You'll learn basic principles of project management and walk through how to build your own project plans. You will leave with a lot of great tools, tricks, and best practices. While I would love this course to be your gateway to further study, it is not a pedagogy or training course, I'm most interested in equipping you with a framework to get your passion projects rolling!

- How much do I need to know about Project Management?

Nothing! (Although, if you are an experienced project manager, you'll get a lovely refresher before we dig into the juicy planning you love. Sometimes a little accountability is all you need!)

- What is considered a project?

A project creates a unique, specific result (like a product, event, service, or outcome) and it has a specific start and finish. It's kind of a special occasion. :)

- Will I complete my project in 5 weeks?

You will complete your project PLAN in 5 weeks. You will learn about all the phases of a project, from conception to completion, but our main focus in this 5-week course is to build an actionable plan, including a timeline of activities. Controlled execution of that plan is where the rubber meets the road, so as we get toward the end of the course, we can talk about whether your cohort wants to continue working together in future sessions, or you can work with me one-on-one for weekly project updates, if you want to!

- How much does it cost?

I want to make world-class tools and techniques accessible to people doing purpose-driven work, so I am offering the first season of Project Club for $300. I hope to build a solid foundation for an expansive, intimate, high-quality experience that requires investment, but is not inaccessible. You can fill out the application here.

- Are scholarships available?

Scholarships may be available. Indicate on the application if you would like to be considered for a scholarship, or if you would like to PROVIDE a scholarship for someone else. You can fill out the application here.

- What is the application process? Why do I have to apply?

Applications for the first season will be open until 11:59pm CST on March 11, 2022. I will review applications on a rolling basis and you will hear back from me within 3-5 days of submitting your application. At that point, you'll pay the course fee and secure your spot! I'm asking you to apply because I want to make sure everyone in the group has a good idea of their project before we get started. If you have multiple ideas, that's okay, tell me about them in the application and we can narrow them down together. I also want to make sure there's a consistent level of dedication to the sessions, since we can learn so much from peer feedback and community interactivity. Here is a link to the application.

- How many people will be in the first cohort?

4-7 spots are available. As I get the first applications, I'll know more about what kinds of projects you want to plan and will adjust accordingly.

- Have you done this before?

I've led project management training and planning sessions for individuals and teams across wide range of industries. What's new about this model is that it will be a small group where each participant will be creating their own individual project plans. I am VERY EXCITED for what we will be able to accomplish together in this way. I think of it as creating many ripples outward, where our work together will extend into your life and the lives you affect when you dedicate yourself to planning what you passionately want to bring into the world.

- Will you do this again?

I hope so! If you can't be part of this season, but want to know about the next one, or if you have any other questions, shoot me an email or contact me here.

- What about planning with a team?

This course is designed for self-directed projects. That means you are the main person responsible for ensuring things get done. You'll likely be managing other people's work along the way, or waiting for them to do certain tasks. For example, if you need posters designed, the designer is not really on your team, but you have to understand how their work affects your project timeline and budget. While this course is designed for artists and solopreneurs, I love planning with teams, too, so reach out and let's talk about it!

About me

You probably know me through music, but I have been a project management consultant for a long time, too, working on projects as varied as the Olympic Torch Relay in South Korea, chemical plant construction in Abu Dhabi, and indie album releases in Austin, Texas. I've been working in this field since 2004 and earned my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in 2016.

It is my dream to increase my impact by increasing YOUR success and I'm excited to see what we can do together.

If you know someone else doing good things who could use this structure and accountability, feel free to send them the link and ask them to list your name in the application.

Thanks! xo -Erin
